League
Overview
The SSO-MHL, sanctioned by the Michigan Amateur Hockey
Association and USA Hockey, offers several levels of competition
again this year. The Youth Program
is divided into the following classifications: A, AA (Mite
through Midget), High School, Girls, and Junior C.
It has been a fundamental goal of this league to provide all kids
the opportunity to play spring hockey through the creation of new
classification and rule changes. The rule allowing a minimum number
of kids who have played either A, AA, or AAA to play down in certain
classification for spring was adopted for two reasons; 1) so that
kids could play on the same team with a relative or friend and 2) so
that kids no longer interested in playing at those levels would have
a place to play. This rules was not implemented so that coaches
could recruit the best players available in those classification in
an attempt to win each game by a lopsided margin. Teams requiring
special scheduling considerations (tournaments, etc.) must submit
them in writing at the time of application.
Players must compete at their 2008 - 09 playing age level (see age
classification chart) and may now participate on 2 teams as
specified in the MAHA annual guide book. The league, however,
does not permit this within the same classification. In other
words, a player can be on a Bantam Select team and a Bantam A team
in the league but not on 2 Bantam A teams.
All participants, players, coaches and team officials, must be in
good standing with the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA)
and USA Hockey.
All players must have proof of their USA Hockey insurance and all teams must be rostered with USA
Hockey prior to their 1st game.
In most divisions, league play will begin April 1st, and end no later than May
24th;
the latest playoffs will begin will be May 30th or at the conclusion of the regular season
whichever is earlier. When league play begins and ends for
your team is driven by the scheduling calendar that you provide us
that let us know when your team is available to play. Also,
consider that most teams prefer to take a 10 day break for Easter
vacation as well.
